44How does she hope to boost Broward businesses?%u201cWe want to drive the economy in a positive way,%u201d she said. %u201cWe want an economy that is competitive. We want to build an economy that%u2019s inclusive, so that everyone can participate, no matter where they live.%u201d %u201cI would like to see kids have the opportunity to pursue higher education if they choose and come back to Broward to work%u201d she said.She added, %u201cI want Broward to be a good place for people to live, to invest in and to grow, with a business community that looks out for everybody%u2019s success.%u201dBuilding on the Established Assets of Greater Fort LauderdaleHow will she build that? Norris-Weeks pointed to a visioning meeting of Chamber leaders in January, as well as implementing the plans that the Executive Committee has been working on for months. %u201cWe%u2019ll take a look at where we stand currently,%u201d she said. %u201cWe%u2019ll talk about the best ways to build upon the assets that we%u2019ve already established.%u201d%u201cAt the core of it, I think we%u2019ll want to offer a message for a marketplace that brings people to the region,%u201d she said. %u201cWe need to think about how competitive we are compared to the rest of the state.%u201dHer plans for outreach include impacting other major markets in Florida with positive messages about Broward.%u201cWe have to think about how we work with other counties to tackle regional issues,%u201d she said, mentioning transportation, infrastructure and housing, the latter a %u201cbig issue for everyone.%u201dShe also wants to support tourism marketing for Greater Fort Lauderdale, noting, %u201cWe want people to see Fort Lauderdale as a distinct destination, outside of the branding for Miami, as a whole.%u201dHer overall goal is to strive for a sustainable economy with a concern for the environment.%u201cI won%u2019t be doing these things alone,%u201d she said. %u201cThese are issues the Executive Board has been talking about for some time.%u201dShe continued, %u201cI%u2019m in touch with the community in a way that will help me serve both the business community and bring a unique perspective in terms of what average citizens feel about the delivery of business within the community.%u201d%u201cTogether, we can deal with the issues that will help launch our business community through innovation and entrepreneurship,%u201d she said.%u201cI%u2019m pleased to be the chair-elect and looking forward to serving as Chair of the Chamber%u201d she said. %u201cIt is a welcoming and inclusive Chamber that is working hard to meet the current and future needs of the business community.%u201dSpecial Feature continued
